Spring has sprung, and summer is just around the corner. What better way to enjoy the nicer (and longer) days than by getting up… and out? On pleasant days, try moving your fitness routine outdoors for a change of scenery and fresh air. If you’re active outside, consider the following safety tips:

  • Check with your healthcare provider before you start a new activity
  • Start by warming up for five minutes. Then cool down for five minutes at the end
  • Slow down if it’s hard for you to talk
  • Increase your time slowly
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Dress right for the weather. And wear comfortable, sturdy shoes
  • Go with a friend
  • If you get an ache or pain, take it easy for a few days. If it doesn’t get better, talk to your healthcare provider
