Ways to take care of your mental

Keeping your body healthy is important, but your mental health also plays a large role in your overall well-being. There are many ways you can take care of your mental health:

  • Think positively: Do you find that your thoughts about yourself tend to be more negative than positive? When you find yourself having a negative thought, make it a point to replace it with a positive one. For example, instead of thinking, “I’m nervous about trying a new thing,” think, “This is a great chance to learn something new.”
  • Make time for yourself: Set aside time each day or week to do an activity you enjoy, such as taking a walk, visiting friends and family, or planting a garden.
  • Manage your stress: Everyone encounters stressful situations or goes through stressful times, so learning how to deal with stress in a healthy way is important. Getting exercise, playing with your dog, or even sharing a laugh with friends are all good ways to relieve stress.
  • Get connected: Quality social relationships may have a positive impact on your well-being. For many people, friends and family members provide the strong relationships that have a positive impact. But there are other ways to connect: Join a volunteer organization or a committee at your workplace, or make it a point to introduce yourself to new people.
